Okay, I will like to start asking questions startin from Chapter One of Book One. I have the Borders edition of ATOTC so i dont think i have the same page numbers.
1. In the first page of the third paragraph, what is "Cock-lane"
2. And then in the fourth paragraph, i dont really understand the analogy of the woodman and farmer to fate and death. -Jasmine
doesn't "cock-lane" go with ghost?? but i still dont get it. haha Cock-lane is a street in London, off of Giltspur Street. Apparently, there had been rumors of a ghost in one of the houses on Cock Lane, who rapped (tapped) out messages to the living. It turned out to be someone in the house out to trick a great many people by claiming there was a ghost.
&& how does Darnay get saved in the first trial?? How does his resemblance to Sydney Carton save him??
- ellen
3. Does Mr. Lorry know about Sidney Carton's plan to replace Darnay at the guillotine? Ah, does Mr. Lorry know?and what was Darnay tried for the second time? I think Max has answered this one for us
- Rosanna
4. Darnay was tried as an "enemy of the republic" in France. I like cookies. Carton replaces himself with Darnay in jail so that Darnay to raise a family. Sydney Carton sacrificed himself for a man that he thought had a future.
